“as contas do meu rosario são balas de artilharia”

Collettivo Rosario

We are a collective of performers in the fields of music, dance, and theatre.
Our research is at the same time a concert, a danced performance, a theatre piece, a celebration of bodies.

THE ROOTS

We come from the most diverse backgrounds – singing, music, dance, body music, theatre, Feldenkrais®, yoga, music therapy, pedagogy – and each of us has always kept an eye on the world of education and teaching.

Rosario was born in 2019.

We met for the first time in Pontedera (PI), at Spazio NU, an international centre for the art of movement, which still supports the project and hosts us during our residential gatherings. Our common thread was Charles Raszl, guitarist, arranger, composer, dancer, artistic educator, musical and theatrical director, and member of Barbatuques.

After meeting each one of us individually, he gave the project its vital impulse, with the seemingly utopian idea of creating a collective of people with different origins and training, yet united by that initial spark that was body music, in the desire to investigate its potential and its ramifications.

FIO AZUL – performance

“…A deep exploration of musical patterns, in which rhythm and melody become a carpet for the unfolding of empathy entrusted to the sound code – Renzo Francabandera. (Paneacquaculture)

Fio Azul is a ritual where bodies intertwine vocally, rhythmically, and through dance, in a tale rooted in popular culture that travels from Brazil to Southern Italy to Africa.

Fio Azul, before being a theatre performance or a body music concert, is first and foremost the celebration of beauty in its complexity. It is a danced prayer where struggle and play, strength and gentleness, the scent and thorns of the rose coexist.

Fio Azul narrates through music and dance the stories connected to the Mediterranean and its waters with Fimmana de Mare and Creuza de Mä; it celebrates Afro-Brazilian mythology, from the goddess of the rivers Oxum to the warrior of the dark waters Obá, invoked by the drums of Ogan Êre; it embodies the witchy energy present in the Moresca del Gatto and the resilient, lunar strength of the Magara.

Fio Azul is a blue thread: its core is thin, seemingly fragile, but as it intertwines it becomes stronger and, joining other threads, it can create a new weave. Once grafted onto a surface – be it a stage, a lawn, or asphalt – Fio Azul takes on unexpected textures and shapes; it can connect one hemisphere to another, putting the vastness of the sky in communication with underground depths. It is a thread that embraces the transformation of time and is ready to unwind to transform into something new.

Fio Azul is an offering, a celebration in which our only instruments are our bodies, from which singing, dancing, and pulsation are born. Each body enters into relation with another, in a continuous exercise of encounter: harmony, rhythmic texture, collective movement, also in connection with the audience.

In each performance, Fio Azul takes shape in a fertile dialogue with the environment, the timing, and the energy of the place and the people passing through it. It has a flexible form in terms of space, duration, staging, and audience interaction, like a rose that is reborn fresh and vibrant each time, in an ever-new garden.

Fio Azul has been presented at various festivals and events, including: Body Rhythm Festival in Hamburg (Germany) in 2025; Festival Opera Prima in Rovigo in 2024 and 2022; Musicultura in Macerata in 2023; Festival Voci Audaci in Losone (Switzerland) in 2023; Festival di Musica Circolare in Trevi (Perugia) in 2019; Entroterre Festival in Bologna in 2023; Spazio NU in Pontedera (Pisa) in 2019, 2022, 2024; Festival Inventaria in Rome (2022); Teatro Capovolto in Trento in 2023; CorpInFesta – Festival di Body Music e Danza in Rovereto (Trento) in 2023 and 2025.

Why Rosario, the facets

Rosario, which in Brazilian Portuguese also means “crown of roses,” is a living organism with roots in the birthplace of each of its members and branches that grow intertwined in the most diverse places.

A tenacious plant, it embraces its thorns as an inevitable part of the whole in order to honor every flower that composes it.

The rosary is a string of beads, and in many parts of the world it is a guiding object for meditation, and direct oneself into the depths and presence. Rosario connects different ways and worlds, and it forms a circle in which the presence of each bead is necessary to experience unity. In the Collective, as in the Rosario, we matter and we sing.

“The beads of my rosary are artillery shots”

This is the dancing manifesto of the Rosario Collective. Making art is reawakening the dormant and essential knowledge to the movement of life (dreams, ancestry). It is carrying out a gentle struggle through beauty, and therefore with ethics and aesthetics, to create and offer new perspectives.

The current situation in the part of the world where we live sees a society based on consumerism, profit and exploitation, on a speed that mows down dialogue and sedimentation. It is on this impoverished soil that we cultivate our rose garden. We carry out a dogged and trusting research to carve out an unassailable space of beauty and depth through practices and reflections oriented toward nurturing collective processes, joy, vitality, and well-being.

Dance, voices, and our bodies playing rhythmically are our prayers.

Our prayers are also our ammunition.
